Soooooo they blocked blogger at work....
And I'm pretty sure I'm the reason....
Oops. :)
I totally feel like I got in trouble.
But no one ever said anything. (Thank goodness!) They just blocked the site...
Oops. :)
I really only blogged during lunch or when I was taking a quick break...
Oh well. Live and learn. At least I didn't get fired. :-P
And I'm sure that blogger won't be blocked in ITALY!!!!!!

My Birthday!
We went out this weekend for my 27th birthday. I choose a little Italian place in Decatur for dinner. After all my friends arrived, I said, "I picked this restaurant because I have a very Italian announcement to make...we're going to Italy!"
It was such a FUN night!
God,
I'm overwhelmed with all of your blessings lately. I don't feel like I deserve them! You are so great! Thank you for the amazing opportunity to live in Italy, thank you for my wonderful husband and my awesome friends. And thank you for the next year of my life. I think I'm on the brink of one of the most exciting chapters so far!

It wasn't spaghetti and meatballs, but it's still a great story!
July 26th, 2011. Just another normal day at work. Nothing special...nothing notable.
Josh emailed me around 4:30 asking me to text him when I was on my way home. He was working from home that day and thought he might be on a conference call when I got there. He didn't want the dogs to start barking their heads off when I was coming in the door. (I guess it's not professional to have your dogs yapping in the background while you're on a conference call.) :)
We knew we were going to find out about the Tax Trek sometime in mid to late July. And for the past week, every time Josh called, emailed or texted me, my heart would skip a beat thinking that we got it.
So when he emailed me to ask that I tell him when I was coming home, my imagination started running wild!
What if we got it and he's going to surprise me?
What if we got France and he's going to have a mini statue of the Eiffel Tower on the counter?
What if we got Germany and he's got some German beer waiting for me?
What if we got Italy and he's got some spaghetti and meatballs waiting?!
These were my thoughts as I drove home. I texted him when I was a few miles from the house. "I'm almost home!" He answered with a single, "K."
The excitement was building the closer I got to the house. I pulled in the driveway, threw the car in park, grabbed my purse and latop bag, threw open the door to the house...and there he was...
At the desk. Still in his work clothes. With his laptop opened to his work email. Typing away.
Oh...he's actually working...boooooo. :(
I was bummed. He got up (he wasn't on the conference call yet) and kissed me hello like he usually does. I guess I wasn't hiding my disappointment well enough because he asked, "What's wrong?"
"Oh nothing." I said. "I just thought we got the Tax Trek and you were going to surprise me with German beer or spaghetti and meatballs."
As I was saying this, I wasn't looking at Josh. I was busy putting my purse and laptop bag down and kicking off my shoes.
Josh said very slowly and nonchalantly, "We're going to Italy."
My head snapped up and I looked at him with disbelief. And he had the goofiest smile on his face...
"Nu-uh...no we're not..." (He just stood there, smiling.) "Don't tease me like that..." (Still standing and smiling.) "You're kidding, right?" (Still smiling.) "That's a mean joke!" (Still smiling.) I punched him in the arm.
He laughed, "Owe! Holly, I'm serious. We're going. I got it! We're going to Italy!"
And THAT'S when I started to believe him! "REALLY?!?! Oh my god!!!!"
The few minutes after that were filled with me acting ridiculously excited, asking a million questions, and giving Josh a HUGE hug and kiss. It was one of the most excited moments of my life!
Italy, here we come!!!

Congrats Eric!
Last weekend we headed down to Columbus for Josh's youngest brother's basic training graduation. If you've never been to a service graduation, you're missing out. They're actually pretty cool. There's smoke, and guns and cannons - quite a show! :)
Josh's youngest brother, Eric, was a foster child that Josh's parents took in. He's such a sweet guy and he fit in so well with the family, so Josh's parents decided to adopt him.

When you think of all Eric's been through, it's really a blessing how wonderful he has turned out. He's a kind person with a great sense of humor.

Eric, we're so proud of you! Congrats!
Lord,
Thank you for bringing Eric into the family. Please bless him and keep him safe during his service.
Amen.

Update on Italy!
8/10/2011
Wow - I can't believe I've known for 2 weeks and I've barely told anyone that we're going to LIVE in ITALY for 3 months!
Today, Josh got an email from his HR department asking him to send his "preferred timeframe" for the trip. I told him to tell them the sooner the better! :)
I still can't believe this is happening. I guess that's why it's been so easy to not spill the beans - because it's still so surreal!!
Lord,
You are so amazing. Thank you for this huge blessing! You are great!
Amen.

I'm Getting Old!
I'm just 26. Doesn't that sound young?
But last week, I hit a milestone. A SCARY milestone.
At 26, I found...
My first gray hair! :(
*Sniff*
I first saw him it in the bathroom mirror at work. He was right on the top of my head, leering at me. He seemed to be saying, "Hey Holly...guess what? You're getting OLD! Hahahah!" *evil laughter from the grey hair*
I was telling Josh later about the gray hair, and he didn't believe me. He said it couldn't be gray. It must just be really light-blonde from spending time in the sun this summer. So I pointed in the general area where I saw the hair.
But then Josh saw him too! Right there at the top of my head.
And of course, I wasn't going to let him stay. So I told Josh to pluck him. And then we got a picture to remember the moment. The time Holly got her first gray hair.

And I better not get anymore for at least another 5, 10 years! :)
Work Hazards & Servant Leadership
I just got antibacterial hand gel in a paper cut - ouch! I have such a hazardous job. :)
It does remind me of the time I hurt myself pretty bad out at the "unnamed attraction" where I used to work.
It was summertime. Maybe in '06 or '07. I was outside, working, doing my thing, talking to guests, etc, when it started to rain. I took shelter underneath a porch with a family of guests - a mom, a dad, and two little girls. It was really starting to pour, and it didn't look like it was going to let up - it wasn't a normal Georgia afternoon shower. The little girls were obviously getting bored...and I started to feel bad for them. I knew we had some toys in the breakroom, so I decided to take a chance in the rain and make a run for it to grab the toys. I took off my slipper-like shoes (didn't want to ruin them!), hiked up my hoop skirt and off I ran!
All went well, until I was on my way back to the family, running like crazy, trying to get out of the rain. I slipped, but caught myself and didn't fall. Score! My foot hit the side of the building, but I didn't think anything of it. I got back to the family and showed the little girls the toys. We played for a little while...but then my foot started hurting...BAD. So I looked down - and I was POURING blood from part of my foot and my toe! "Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. Don't freak out...don't freak out..." I didn't want to scare the family, so I politely excused myself, and ran back out into the rain, and back into the breakroom.
I called my boss (a very kind woman who I'd know for a few years by then) and explained to her what had happened. She told me to come over to the farmyard (yes, there was a farmyard a this "unnamed attraction") and she would bandage me up. (She used sterile items from the veterinary area of the farmyard.) So back out into the rain I went, limping all the way. When I got there, she sat me on a stool, washed my foot and bandaged me up. I didn't get in trouble - she didn't even lecture me about safety and the importance of wearing shoes at work.
Pretty amazing, hu? What boss do you know that would wash and bandage your nasty bleeding feet? I still think of how incredibly kind that was of her.
The company I work for is based in the principals of servant leadership. In fact, there's a statue in our hallway of Jesus washing the feet of a disciple.

But I learned my lesson. Don't run in the rain. Especially barefoot. :)
Yep, that's me - walking in the rain. At least I'm wearing boots!
That day, my boss def took those principals to heart. I always think of her whenever I hear about servant leadership.
